HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (June 26, 2019)—Nova Scotia post-secondary institutions are investing in cybersecurity awareness and education for faculty, staff, and students, while supporting Atlantic Canadian innovation with a new multi-year partnership.

“Cybersecurity has emerged as a key concern and a priority for Nova Scotia’s post-secondary education community,” says Todd Williams, Executive Director of Higher Ed IT Shared Services (HISS). “We’re pleased to be able to offer our members a common platform and technology that will help educate and empower students, faculty and staff on how to spot the latest cyber threats as well as how to protect themselves and their schools.”

According to the 2018 Verizon Data Breach report, 93% of malicious data breaches came from cyber-attacks that leveraged e-mails, texts, phone calls or even in-person visits, which is known as social engineering. The most effective and affordable solution to combat social engineering is an educated and engaged community.

Following a public competition, HISS awarded a multi-year contract to Bulletproof for the implementation and delivery of the Beauceron cybersecurity awareness and engagement platform along with Bulletproof’s integrated Security Aware managed service.

“Bulletproof has had the pleasure of working with the majority of post-secondary institutions in Atlantic Canada,” says Jeff Shaw, Chief Operating Officer with Bulletproof. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to continue that journey; in this case, leveraging world-class made-in-Atlantic Canada technology combined with dedicated success coaching to help transform university constituents from cybercrime targets to active defenders of their institution’s cybersecurity.”

Beauceron Security empowers behavior change across organizations by providing the right information at the right time, enabling individuals to make better decisions. They’re doing what FitBit and AppleWatch did to exercise, for cybersecurity. They accomplish this by providing a unique integrated and highly automated platform that combines phishing simulations, cyber awareness training, surveys, and newsletters with advanced analytics and dashboarding.

“We love being able to bring innovation developed at an Atlantic Canadian university to help benefit other schools here in the region,” says Beauceron CEO and co-founder David Shipley. “Beauceron was designed from the ground up to help UNB improve its approach to managing cyber risk so it’s already well-positioned to help the other schools in their security efforts. And Bulletproof’s experienced team brings tremendous value to their customers, from on-boarding assistance to a dedicated success coach and Tier 1 Support. Further, the integration of this service with Bulletproof’s Security Incident Response Team ensures clients have a proven approach to preventing, detecting and recovering from a cyber-attack.”

The HISS master agreement with Bulletproof has recently been extended beyond the participating members throughout Nova Scotia to post-secondary institutions in both New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
