Still have a few gaps in my shedule for January & February - hoping to top it up with a Citrix session, Cisco and VS 21010 course or two. As always, the courses listed in my schedule are a result of client demand, so if you are looking for something not listed... send me a note and I will add it to our schedule. If you have questions or would like to register for any of the following email me: darryl.esau@bulletproofsi.com

While creating a SharePoint solution for a client we ran into an unexpected problem: SharePoint doesn't accept the following characters within file and folder names:

" # % & * : < > ? / { | } ~

Really, do you?

System and process documentation  are something that I am always asking for in my job as a security consultant.  No surprise to anybody in the field, most times the documentation just doesn't exist. When it does exist, it is usually really hard to find because it is scattered amongst a variety of file servers, CMS and personal computers. To complicate things, it's probably also in a variety of formats.

This is not an article meant to wax the virtues of documentation.

SharePoint Service Pack 2

I recently had the opportunity to install the SharePoint 2007 service pack 2 on a few SharePoint environments.  Unlike some of the problems that surrounded the install of service pack 1 I was pleasantly surprised that this service pack installed without any issues what so ever.

Service Pack 2 is a cumulative service pack containing all the fixes from sp1.   The basic install is straight forward with the caveat that if you have MOSS you have to install the WSS service pack first then second apply the MOSS service pack.

Does hiccup have 2 Cs? Does it have one C on the weekdays and 2 Cs on the weekend?

So anyway, I was writing some SharePoint itemUpdating event handlers and ran into some funny inconsistencies between when an event fires from an update done through the single item view and when the event is fired from the Edit in Data Sheet View.

When we look at a Yes/No field the AfterProperty will return a True or False in the single item view but it will return a -1 or 0 in the Data Sheet View.
So in my code where I wanted some special code to run when the Yes/No field named ‘Ready' was Yes, I had to double up my logic

The answer is SharePoint.

Come on say it with me...."SHHARRREEPPOIINT".  Fun wasn't it!

Now the question is: "what did you just say?" Actually, better yet:  "what did you just mean?"
