Bulletproof is currently in Toronto at the Cisco Networkers Solutions Forum 2010. We have a great booth setup this year featuring lots of video surveillance toys and demonstrations.

Our video wall shows live feeds from local and remote sources. Come visit us at our booth.

Over the past 8 months or so I have had the privilege of working with a BICSI certified Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) as part of a project assignment.  Having learned about the importance of cable management in a previous life in the automotive industry, I was immediately taken by his thoughtful and dedicated approach to the art of cable management.  While your server and network cabinets may not look like this, the reality is that they probably don't look nearly as good as this layout or this installation as many of us don't spend enough time considering the importance of proper cable management as part of an overall project.

IP Video Surveillance 101

With Bulletproof becoming the only company in Canada certified to sell and implement CISCO's IP Video Surveillance (IPVS) solution the demand and interest has been very steady.  With each engagement that we undertake I see the same types of questions being asked over and over.  In light of this I put together a sales questionnaire for our sales team.  In this post I have extracted the customer relevant questions to assist you in preparing for an IPVS implementation.

First off I must say I have been poor on the blogging side of things as of late.  All it takes is a conference on Sales and Marketing and Social Media to get you back in the swing of things.  As I write this I am on an 8 hour plane ride back from Paris where CISCO recently held their Partner Velocity conference.   I have attended this event for the past three years and in my opinion it is the most valuable event that I attend annually.

Bulletproof and Cisco hosted a great event this week. The "Accelerate Your Business Driving Experience" was a fabulous success by all accounts. Our attendees drove high powered race cars under the direction of some of Atlantic Canada's best race car drivers. The weather was beautiful, the food was good and the cars were FAST.

Cisco Unified Communications Manager is the call processing entity of the Unified Communications infrastructure and is responsible for call setup and teardown.  In addition to this base level of processes it is also responsible for many feature related services such as basic presence, conferencing, music on hold, and single number reach.

Call setup and teardown refers to the process of one IP phone calling another and the phone checking with the Unified Communications Manager (UCM) to ensure that the other party exists and is available.  Once these basic things have happened the next part of the process is for the first phone to figure out how to reach the other phone.  This is handled by basic routing and switching  but also now coupled with the UCM and its dial plan.  Once the two phones have determined that they are aware and reachable they begin to communicate independently of the UCM and have a point to point IP stream between the two respective endpoints.  This can be seen to be quite efficient with respect to bandwidth utilization.   Other systems that require an IP stream between the IP PBX and the respective endpoints at all times but this is not as efficient from a bandwidth perspective.

First in Canada !

This past week, Bulletproof Solutions was officially named the first company in Canada to be certified in the CISCO's Advanced Technology Program for IP Video Surveillance.  I can't begin to explain the amount of effort and investment it took to bring this to fruition.  Several months of training and lab work including the development of a two hundred thousand dollar state of the art technology lab was all part of it.

You might ask, "Why did we do it?"  For several reasons actually but the biggest reason is that we had the ability to become the first company in Canada to be certified in a technology that will have a worldwide market of over 46 billion dollars annually by 2013.
