“We’re going to start a Corporate Blog?”

As you have obviously noticed if you are reading this, Bulletproof Solutions Inc now has an active blog with several people from within the company contributing.

I've been asked on several occasions why a company would want to have people blogging. There are no shortages of opinions and conversations on the web about corporate blogging, but what does it mean to a regional IT Services firm like Bulletproof Solutions and why are we trying to make all this noise on our site?

Our business is built on our people, their experience, their strengths, their personalities and their dedication and we want to tell YOU about them.  Our IT experts do so many things really well BUT one thing they don't do enough is brag !

When you start looking at marketing a company who's strength lies in its people, you realize that it's pretty hard for the public to recognize your strengths by reading an advertisement or a brochure.  You can write all the details you want in a proposal but at the end of the day it's still hard to reach into the company and see the people.

So how do you do it? How do you tell the world about your people?

Honestly it's pretty hard to top word of mouth and customer references.  They rank pretty high on the best practices list in this area!  I am able to say with confidence the success Bulletproof has seen and the growth we have realized over the past 8 years can be significantly attributed to word of mouth and strong customer referrals.    We have a great list of customers and our people work their butts off to continually provide the best service they can for those customers.

What's next on the list? How do we tell more people?  Enter this crazy thing that we can't live without and our parents wish had waited another 50 years to evolve, the INTERNET!  Obviously as the web evolved, companies started seeing more dynamic and visual opportunities to talk to the world.

Video is obviously high on that list so you guessed it, we started with Steve's online video introduction (OVI) which was a huge hit with customers and visitors to our site.  The OVI was such a success we are planning on adding additional OVI's for several of our business lines to give people a chance to get to know more of our experts in the same informal video format.

The video was great but you can only capture so much info in that format.  The next step was based on the best way to tell the world about your people is to let them do it themselves?  When you start thinking of a format for expressing opinions, ideas, expertise, in a real, informal, conversational way, the top item on your list would be a blog!

The Bulletproof Blog was born. That was the easy part!  I think the next conversation went something like "ok we can do this blog thing but really what are we going to talk about?"  The answer: anything and everything..... well maybe slightly modified.  We want people to get to know our guys and gals, their personalities, their strengths, but honestly we don't really care what you had for lunch!  Fair enough, we'll focus mostly on work or company related matters!

So there you have it, Bulletproof has a blog so that we can reach out beyond the brochures and the images on our website!  So we can talk about nitty gritty technical stuff that never makes a brochure but might be just what you needed to read that day you were struggling with a problem.
